Daredevil’s adventures are over, at least for now. Streaming giant Netflix has decided to cancel the show after three popular seasons, ending rumors about a potential season four.
The superhero action TV series drew widespread critical acclaim and millions of viewers tuned in to watch the series online during its three-year run.
But, on Friday Nov 30th, a statement from the show’s creators, first reported by the Hollywood magazine “Deadline”, said: “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note”.
The cancellation came amid a swirl of rumours. Only two weeks ago, the show’s creator Erik Oleson had given the fans hope about an upcoming season four via Twitter.
Just pitched @netflix #Daredevil Season 4. Fingers crossed!

After Iron Fist and Luke Cage, Daredevil is the third Marvel superhero to end up unemployed, leaving Jessica Jones and The Punisher as the only shows from the Marvel universe still running on the platform.
In spite of its cancellation, Netflix has clarified that the episodes will remain available on Netflix for years to come and “the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel”.
Although the show’s star Charlie Cox had already talked about uncertainty surrounding season four in an interview, the news seems to have caught the rest of the cast and the fans off guard.
Some of the show’s actors commented on Twitter expressing sadness, but there was also a large amount of gratitude for having been part of this “amazing show”.
I’m so sad that we won’t be continuing this story. Mostly I’ll miss seeing the friends I’ve made everyday. Thank you to every person who contributed to this series over the years. And to @erikoleson because of you we are going out on a high. @Daredevil #Daredevil pic.twitter.com/aVmXu1UwFu

The reasons behind Netflix’s decision are unknown, but rumors seem to suggest that there had been a consistent drop in Daredevil’s viewership in its last season, despite its popularity with the critics. If this was the case, it would join other Marvel shows Luke Cage and Iron Fist in being cancelled for the same reason.
Netflix hasn’t left much room for reversal, but fans have already started a campaign in support of Daredevil season four on Twitter with the hashtag #renewdaredevil.
