Nintendo has released its 30 percent off for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025. This is a rare break to its famously rigid pricing strategy.
Nintendo announced this sale on November 11 on its official website.
The sale will start on November 20 for digital items and November 23 for physical items, applying to both software and accessories.
The holiday sale will extend worldwide on Cyber Monday, December 1.
Discuss the reason for this special sale, Chris Nguyen, Game project manager at Gamota Joint Stock Company said: “Nintendo is not known for big discounts. Even when the product has been launched for years, there are no discounts.”
In her opinion, this substantial discounting marks a notable shift, indicating either significant competitive pressure from rivals, especially from the PC game genre, inventory pressure, or an effort to place the Switch 2 aggressively in the holiday market.
With the launch of the Switch 2 and fierce competition during the holiday season, Nintendo finally changed its rigid pricing philosophy.
Titles like the critically acclaimed Super Mario Odyssey and the recently released Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door are being slashed to $29.99 (~£23). This is the deepest price point Nintendo has ever offered.
Another tier of recent games, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Princess Peach: Showtime!, is set at $39.99 (~£31) while it’s almost 20 percent off, this is still a premium and expensive tier.
Surprise was the general reaction among fans regarding this discount that they had been waiting for a long time. Reddit user Batcat posted: “Wow it is actually a decent deal. I can finally get Zelda and Peach.”

List of discounted games:
- Princess Peach: Showtime! – $39 (~£31) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – $39 (~£31) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD – $39 (~£31) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Luigi’s Mansion 3 – $39 (~£31) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe – $39 (~£31) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Super Mario Odyssey – $29.99 (~£23) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Nintendo Switch Sports – $29.99 (~£23) (reg. $39.99~£31)
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door – $29.99 (~£23) (reg. $59.99~£46)
- Splatoon 3 – $29.99 (~£23) (reg. $59.99~£46)
The company is also offering discounts on essential peripherals, including $20 off on Samsung MicroSD Express Cards, starting November 30.
The company confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 console itself will not be discounted, maintaining its $449.99 MSRP. This was an expected move given the console’s launch this year.
The competitive landscape has shifted dramatically since Nintendo’s early Switch dominance.
Game project manager at Gamota Joint Stock Company noted that Nintendo used to be a family favorite. However, as people value individuality, the product has become more selective.
On the other hand, Nguyen also suggested that the fierce competition from the PC game segment is one of the big factors causing Nintendo to gradually lose market share. She said: “What’s more, for £23, users can buy a top-notch PC game, but only a B-level Nintendo game. Obviously, PC gaming, mobile gaming, and subscription services have created pricing pressures.”
The following table shows the original launch price of major consoles over time.
| Console | Launch Year | UK Price |
| NES | 1985 | ~£130 |
| GameCube | 2001 | £150 |
| Wii U (Basic/Deluxe) | 2012 | £249.99/£299 |
| Nintendo Switch | 2017 | £279.99 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | 2025 | £395.99 |
