In a recent statement, the club says “the appointment of a new Head Coach is imminent”.

Watford FC has sacked manager Quique Sanchez Flores following this weekend’s 2-1 loss to Southampton. The Spanish manager’s second stint at Vicarage Road lasted only 89 days.

After only one win in their last ten league games, Watford sit bottom of the Premier League – six points adrift from safety. This is the second manager to have been sacked by Watford this season. Javi Garcia parted ways with the club in September, only months after having led Watford to an FA Cup final, in which they lost 6-0 to Premier League winners Manchester City.

In an open letter to Watford fans after his departure, Quique Sanchez Flores wrote that it is time for the club to have a “collective reaction” to their league misfortunes, having only picked up 7 points out of a possible 30 in the past three months.

Sanchez Flores had previously been in charge of the club during the 2015-16 season and parted company with Watford in May of 2016 despite a comfortable mid-table position and a semi-final run in the FA Cup.

Watford has placed their under-23 coach Hayden Mullins as interim manager for their Premier League game on Wednesday at Leicester. No further comment from Watford FC is expected until they announce their new permanent Head Coach, although rumors point to their new manager being former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton.
